Apples

Fall (or autumn, depending on what you call it at your house) is one of the favorite times of year at our house. It’s also a great time for apples! I like apples a lot, and I like them prepared in a variety of ways. I’ll leave the “classic” apple pie to those of you who have the knack for crusts, and share this Apple Crisp recipe I received from my mother-in-law, La Rue Morris.

Ingredients:

4 Cups sliced apples

3/4 Cup brown sugar

1/2 Cup flour

1/2 Cup quick cook oats

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1/3 Cup butter or margarine, softened

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Place apples in a greased 8 X 8 baking dish. Combine the rest of the ingredients, and sprinkle over apples. Bake 30 minutes. Serve with heavy cream or ice cream.
